Artist Bio
Ruth Hubermann is a contemporary painter exploring nature through light, memory, and texture. She first discovered painting as a teenager and immediately knew that her future path will be a creative one. Following a successful 28-year career as a graphic designer and art director, Ruth is re-focusing on painting full-time, bringing a strong sense of composition, color, and visual clarity to her work.
Ruth allows her images to evolve organically on the canvas, shifting between figurative, semi-abstract, and impressionistic forms. She frequently incorporates collage, gold leaf, textile elements, and pastels, building richly layered surfaces that echo the complexity of remembered experiences.
Ruth creates atmospheric scenes that feel both familiar and open-ended, inviting viewers to bring their own memories and emotional responses into the work.
Artist Statement
My work explores nature, memory, and light. It allows me to process meaningful moments with joy and calm. I have realized that what truly shapes my impression and memory of a place or a moment is the quality of light: its angle, its warmth or coolness, and the way it interacts with texture and shadow to create mood and emotion. Although over the years my subject matter and media has changed, my love for the process, colour, contrast and texture exploration – remained constant.
I work from photographs, memory, and quick sketches on location and aim to create paintings that evoke a sense of recognition without offering a fixed narrative. I invite viewers to discover each work on their own terms and to project their own memories and associations into each piece.
